In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, more individuals and groups are offering delivery services to assist the medically fragile, high-risk and elderly residents of Habersham County. Below are some of the local delivery services available.

LEAN ON ME DELIVERY

Clarkesville native Lindsey Lewallen decided to take action instead of sitting on the couch during her spring break and start Lean on Me Delivery. This is a volunteer service offering free grocery, prescription, and other needed item deliveries to older adults, immunocompromised, or other at-risk individuals.

“I was just sitting at home and felt kind of useless and helpless,” said the Maryville College student whose original plans were to visit Panama City Beach, Florida. She was inspired when she saw a similar movement started in New York.

Those who order will need to provide a reimbursement for the receipt. They are also accepting monetary donations by Venmo which will go towards supplies for deliveries (gloves, hand sanitizer, gas etc.).

As donations are or become available, they can be used to buy needed items for at risk individuals who cannot afford it during the crisis.

If you would like to place a delivery order or become a volunteer visit lean-on-me-delivery.square.site/.

NORTH GEORGIA HOME GROUP

Josh and Laura Anderson along with their colleague Angie Wingo are offering to deliver groceries, medications, household supplies and other miscellaneous items for the elderly and medically fragile community.

Laura said the response by many so far has been “genuinely appreciative” throughout the community.

Those who order have to reimburse the receipt by either cash or check.

You can call 770-912-6334, 706-499-1124 or 770-654-6459 to place an order. You can also email them at northgahomegroup@gmail.com.

ANIMAL CONTROL DELIVERING PET FOOD

Habersham County Animal Care and Control is delivering free pet food for the community. HCACC Director Madi Nix said they would like to focus on people who are high risk / medically fragile.

There is no contact as officers will drop off the food by your door and then call to confirm delivery. Call 706-839-0195 for assistance or email mnix@habershamga.com.

In positive news for John B. Gesbocker Animal Shelter, Nix said adoptions have been high for the month of March. Visit calendly.com/
hcacc/30min to schedule pet adoptions. The shelter is restricted to HCACC employees only.
