PEACH STATE CREDIT UNION SCHOOL AWARDS
The Peach State Credit Union Extra Mile Award was presented by Board Chairperson Russ Nelson to Erna Dowdy, PE Teacher at Demorest Elementary school for her service to her school and her passion and dedication to student’s health. This year, with her help, Demorest Elementary School raised over $21,000 through the Kids Heart Challenge.
The Peach State Service Above Self Award was presented Monday night to Crystal Caudell, a parent involvement coordinator at Clarkesville Elementary. Presentor Board Member Joey Duncan lauded Caudell for her dedication to students, leading fundraisers, targeting instructions in math, and bringing students joy with her media center murals.
POSTER CONTEST WINNERS
Transportation Director for Habersham County Schools Stephanie Walker presented the top safety posters for their annual bus safety poster contest during Monday night’s meeting. The first place winner of each division will go on to be submitted to the Georgia School Bus Safety Poster Contest to be in the running for a state award. First Place winner for Division 1 Grades K-2 was Britton Franklin of Clarkesville Elementary and for Division 2 Grades 3-5, first place went to Sabrina Blackburn of Clarkesville Elementary.
ATTENDANCE WINNERS
Attendance awards for the month of February were awarded to principals of the first place ranking school for student attendance and staff attendance. First place in student attendance for the month of February was Hazel Grove Elementary at the elementary level and Wilbanks Middle School at the secondary level. For staff attendance, Woodville Elementary took first place at the elementary level and North Habersham Middle School took first place for the secondary level.
CANTRELL HONORED
Dr. Martha Cantrell was the recipient of the Georgia Association of Gifted Children Leadership Award, which was presented to her by Director of Elementary and Secondary Curriculum Patrick Franklin. A gifted coordinator for 13 years, she has helped the program grow to over 1,200 gifted students and 17 advanced classes at the high school, and has been an advocate for gifted students throughout her time with the district.
