Habersham County Chief Financial Officer Tim Sims was named interim county manager at Tuesday night's board of commissioners meeting.
Sims will assume the role Dec. 28, just one day after current county manager Alicia Vaughn's contract ends after announcing her resignation in September.
Commission Chairman Ty Akins previously told The Northeast Georgian that the interim candidate will not be the official hire. The board is working on narrowing down its top candidates for the job, and a decision will be made in the new year.
In other business, the vote to demolish the old county courthouse in downtown Clarkesville failed 2-3. Commissioners Akins and Dustin Mealor voted in favor while Commissioners Bruce Palmer, Bruce Harkness and Jimmy Tench voted against the demolition.
This comes after Clarkesville Mayor Barrie Aycock addressed the commission on behalf the city urging them to tear down the building. "It is truly a blight on our historic town, the county seat of our fine county," Aycock said.
