TFS soccer teams hope dream runs continue

Tallulah Falls’ boys and girls soccer teams played after press time Tuesday in the state Sweet 16.

Both teams fell in their second-round playoff games, with the boys losing a tight one 3-1 in extra time. The Lady Indians lost 5-2 to end their historic season as well.

The No. 1-ranked boys have a ridiculous 112-3 scoring count after beating Darlington in the first round on April 12. The unit has secured 13 clean sheets this season, and players such as Jake Wehrstein and Brit Shaw have been sensational there on the back line, taking much pressure off stellar keeper Kelton Reynolds.

Austin Ball's 39 goals, along with Jake Hall (26) and Landon Hall (11) have been leading the offense. Clay Kafsky, Simeon Conjagic, Luis Varona Pastor, and others are also contributing on that end. You never know which player(s) are going to come through there, as evidenced in the first round win where Koen Eller and Wehrstein notched goals.

The path gets tougher, as the Indians played host to Whitefield Academy, the No. 7-ranked team in the state.

The dream season continues for the Lady Indians, who are ranked No. 8 in the state and are fresh off a history-making 3-2 win over Trion in the opening round. That moves the girls to a school-record 12-3 mark. Addie Higbie scored twice, including the game-winner to propel the girls onward. That brings the senior's record-setting goal total to 42 and an even 70 for her career.

The Lady Indians took a five-match win streak heading into the second round, and have 78 goals scored (school record), which averaged 5.3 per game. On the flip side, the team allows just a hair over 2 goals per contest.
