Governor's challenge winners

Habersham County Sheriff's Office and Demorest Police were honored with Governor's Challenge Awards in October. Demorest Chief Robin Krockum accepted the award for best Category 1 police department in the state for the fifth-straight year from Allen Poole, Director of Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Habersham County's Sheriff's Office was named second place in its division for the entire agency, and the HEAT Unit won first place, beating out the Georgia State Patrol's Nighthawks with just its two-man squad of Brandon Holcomb (left) and Kris Hall, who also got their award from Poole. The HEAT Unit was honored earlier this year by the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers for their DUI arrests and initiatives to prevent highway fatalities.
