Seven decades of joy

Cornelia couple celebrates 70 years on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, Clinton and Pat Savage of Cornelia will celebrate another year together for the 70th time. Despite the ups and downs and curves of life, their marriage has prevailed for seven decades.

Clinton Savage, a lifelong Habersham County resident who spent his career working for AT&T, said he met his wife Pat at church one Sunday. Clinton said they dated for some time, broke up and then reconnected with a stronger relationship than before.

Sometimes Clinton would walk 12 miles or farther to see Pat on Skitts Mountain, and in the 1950s, during the Korean War and a year before they married, Clinton joined the Army. One day, while in Korea during the war, he finally wrote Pat a letter.
