A memorial celebration of life will be held for Agnes Godfrey Nichols, 95, of Clarkesville, at Clarkesville United Methodist Church, officiated by ministers Keith Cox and Jan Devereux, at a later date following her wishes.

Mrs. Nichols went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021.

Born Dec. 24, 1925, in Dawson County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. John Belk Godfrey and Esther Bennett Godfrey. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin C. Nichols; son, Brian C. Nichols; and brothers, Ralph Godfrey, Ray Godfrey, and James Godfrey.

Being a preacher's kid, Agnes lived in, and attended schools throughout North Georgia and attended LaGrange College. After college, she resided in Clarkesville until meeting and marrying Alvin C. Nichols in 1954. They made their life and raised their two sons, John and Brian, in New Port Richey, Florida. After her husband’s death in 1997, she made her home permanently in Clarkesville to be close to her family members. Agnes enjoyed living her last two years at Graceful Care Assisted Living in Clarkesville surrounded by her precious new friends.

Agnes committed her life to Christ at an early age and remained a faithful servant for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church, where her father had been pastor years before. She was involved and volunteered in many activities of the church and was a member of the Friendship Bible Class and the Jetsetters.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John A. Nichols and Joy Hester Nichols; grandchildren, Jessamie N. Vincent and Jason Vincent, Marshal Nichols and Kasey Krippner Nichols; and six great-grandchildren, Georgia, Warren, and Rushing Vincent, and Harper, Berklee, and Hadley Nichols, all of Clarkesville. In addition, she left many very special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Nichols requested that donations be made to Clarkesville United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 365, Clarkesville, GA. 30523.
