Funeral services for Bessie Pearl Free Groves, 92, of Clarkesville, were held Thursday, August 4, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. The Rev. Connie Berry officiated. Interment was held in the Stonepile Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Groves took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord Monday, August 1, 2022 following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Clarkesville, she was a daughter of the late Lester Lee Sr. and Manonia Gragg Free. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Alonzo Groves; daughter, Donna Groves Canup; brothers, J.B. Free, C.T. Free, Homer Free, Johnny Free, David Freeman Free, and Lester Lee Free Jr.; and sisters, Margie Canup, Thelma Burton, and Anna Alexander.

Bessie was a poultry worker at the hatchery with Fieldale Farms Corporation where she retired with many years of dedicated service. Most of all, she loved her family unconditionally. In her spare time, Bessie enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Groves and daughter, Deborah Groves, both of Clarkesville; twin sister, Jessie Ruth Tench, brother, Nelson Free, and sister, Essie Free Goss, all of Clarkesville; grandchildren, DeLeah and Hamp Cross, Dustin Groves, Daniel Floyd Groves, and Kendra and Seth Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Hayden Groves, Drake Alexander Groves, Jake Cross, Jack Cross, and Jolie Cross; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
