Funeral services were held for Billy Joe "Bill" Barden, 90, of Cornelia, Monday, Oct. 14, at Cornelia United Methodist Church with Pastor Johnny Ray and Mr. Stanley Terrell officiating. Interment followed in Level Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Barden passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.
Born Nov. 14, 1928, in Cornelia, he was a son of the late Frank G. and Annie Turpin Barden. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Mike Barden; brothers, James and Lee Barden; sisters, Claudine Tomlin, Louise Morgan, Mary Ann Caudell and Lena McGahee.
Mr. Barden was a United States Army Korean War veteran and was formerly employed with Perry Packing Company and Fleming Wholesale. He was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Men's Sunday school class. He was also a member and longtime Post Commander of the Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, the American Legion Post No. 84, the Cornelia Masonic Lodge No. 92 F&AM, the former Optimist Club and was active in the Athletic Booster Club.
Survivors include wife of 67 years, Jane Porter Barden of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Robert Bell of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Tammy Barden of Cornelia; daughter-in-law, Janice Barden of Cornelia; grandchildren, Jenna Barden, Drew Barden, Brett Barden, Patrick Bell, Peyton Bell, Jackson Bell, T.J. Barden and Brooks Barden; brother, Dan Barden of Orville, Ohio; sister, Doris Goldman of Jackson, Mississippi; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
