Funeral services for Carrie Evelyn Cantrell Evans, 89, of Chandler Street, Hartwell, will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Sean Payne, the Rev. Lester Evans, the Rev. Kevin Hembree, and Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating.  Burial will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park with the Rev. Cory Pulliam officiating.

Mrs. Evans passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 at her home.

Born June 20, 1932 in Anderson, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Asbury Cantrell and Mary Geneva Farmer Cantrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Ed Cantrell; brothers, Boyd Cantrell and Lloyd Cantrell; and seven sisters, Ethel Holt, Ruth Bell, Dot Bell, Ida Arrendale, Zola Powell, Suzie Worley, and Martha Key.

Mrs. Evans was co-owner of Evans Appliance and Furniture and a former member of the Ladies of Georgia Power. She was also a member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church since 1957, where she was former assistant organist, teacher of the Inspiration SS Class, WMU, and served on the Decorating Committee and several other committees.

Survivors include her husband, J. Alfred Evans; two sons, Jerry Evans (Ruby) and Don Evans; a daughter, Tammy Evans Fazio (Mike) all of Hartwell; eight grandchildren, Jim Evans, Jennifer Allen (Jason), Joe Evans (Kerry), Dr. Summer Evans, Brad O'Barr, Evan Fazio, Michael Fazio (Erica) and Matthew Fazio (Brianna); and nine great-grandchildren, Jacob Evans, Victoria Evans, Kinsley Allen, Ryker Allen, C J Allen, Finn Evans, Sawyer Evans, Riley Evans and Caylee Fazio.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.  Other times the family will be at the home.
