A family graveside service for Carrie McClain Hatfield, 95, of Gainesville, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Alta Vista Cemetery.

Mrs. Hatfield passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022.

Born May 29, 1926, in Lebanon, Tennessee, Mrs. Hatfield was the daughter of the late Neal McClain and Carrie (Cowan) McClain. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. Hatfield, Jr.; granddaughter, Katie Hatfield; sisters, Betty Taylor and Katherine Leathers; sisters-in-law, Jennie Lewis and Betty Stockton; and brother-in-law, Sam Hatfield.

Mrs. Hatfield was a valued member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was involved in numbers civic groups including past president and member of The Book Club, First Presbyterian Church circle leader, Food Pantry chairman, Women of the Church chairman, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gray Lady and window shop volunteer, Brenau Chapter ZTA advisor, Girl Scout leader (way back), Jr. Service League, Charity Ball chairman, and Board and Principal Committees president.

She is survived by her children, Joe McClain Hatfield and  Rosalyn of Clarkesville and Betty Bowden Hatfield Goldberg of Gainesville; grandchildren, Carrie Alexandria Hatfield, Caroline Goldberg, and Mariclaire Goldberg, all of Gainesville; brother-in-law, Jim Lewis of Birmingham, Alabama; nieces, Ann Dyal of Lebanon, Tennessee, Sharon Stockton of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Mary Johnson of Crane Hill, Alabama; nephews, Dr. A.T. (Tip) Taylor of Atlanta and Jimmy Leathers of Melbourne Beach, Florida; and several great-nieces, nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, 800 South Enota Dr. NE, Gainesville, GA 30501, c/o the Sarah Cochran Fund, Good News Clinic, 8110 Pine Street SW, Gainesville, GA 30501, or a charity of your choice.
