Funeral services for Charles Hugh Franklin, 84, of Mt. Airy, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Webb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Franklin went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born April 8, 1936, in Clarkesville, he was a son of the late Carl Bell Franklin and Myrtie Mae Jameson Franklin. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Joe Franklin; and sister, Edith Mae Watson.
Charles started work in 1950 at the young age of 14 and retired at age 70 from Fieldale Farms Corporation with over 55 years of dedicated service. In his spare time, he enjoyed vegetable gardening and landscaping his yards. Charles was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was involved in various church activities, was named Deacon Emeritus, and was a part of the Friendship Sunday school class. Most of all, he loved his family very much and doted on his three granddaughters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Imogene Free Franklin of Mt. Airy; daughter and significant other, Paige Franklin and Richard Garner of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Penelope "Penny" and Daniel Gorsuch of Bellbrook, Ohio; grandchildren, Brittany Gorsuch, Elizabeth Gorsuch and fiancé, Philip Uhlig, and Katherine Gorsuch; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
