Funeral services for David Lee Umbehant, 72, of Demorest, were held Monday, Oct. 21, at New Vision Worship Center in Baldwin with the Rev. Terry Rice, the Rev. Mickey Umbehant and the Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating.
Mr. Umbehant passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 17, 1946, in Banks County, he was a son of the late Everett Nash Umbehant and Mary Frances (York) Umbehant.
He owned and operated Mt. Airy Auto Center for a number of years and retired as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Cornelia. David was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was a member of the Cornelia Masonic Lodge.
David loved his family and being the oldest of six siblings he had his work cut out for him. He fell in love with Margaret Dill and they soon married and had been together for more than 50 years. He was very proud of his daughters, Alison and Monica. Alison married Donald Singer, and they have two children, Conor and Emma. Monica married Jason Welborn, and they have two children, Marly and Jett. These grandchildren were the apple of his eye. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his siblings, Eddie Umbehant and Pam, Gale Umbehant, Ricky Umbehant and Hazel, Mickey Umbehant and Teresa, and Dale Davidson and Rick; sisters-in-law, Faye Unbehant and Janice Griggs; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
David committed his life to the Lord at one of his hospital stays about six months ago and has testified ever since of how great it felt and that he wished he had done that a long time ago.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Conor Singer, Jett Welborn, Donald Singer, Jason Welborn, Clint Umbehant and William Umbehant.
