Graveside services for Dwain Whitehead, 78, of Mount Airy, were held Sunday, June 19, at the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Trent Smith officiated.

Mr. Whitehead went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 16, 2022.

Born Aug. 2, 1943, in Mount Airy, he was a son of the late Pearlie Mae Loudermilk Thomason and the late Marvin Whitehead.

Dwain served his country in the United States Marines. He worked for over 30 years as a heavy equipment operator with Local 926 Union Operating Engineers of Atlanta. Dwain barbered during the 1960s and continued in that trade upon retirement. He was the owner/operator of The Clipper & Style Shop in Toccoa for many years and took advantage of every opportunity to witness to others about the Lord. Dwain was a faithful member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Kathryn Jean Westberry and James Pickett Westberry III of Valley, Alabama and Cynthia Ann Howell of Lafayette; son and daughter-in-law, John Dwain and Veronica Whitehead of Winder; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and cousins, other relatives, and friends.
