A drive by funeral service for Elainia York Smith, 53, of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Cool Springs Methodist Church with the Rev. Garvis Kinsey and the Rev. Steve McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

  Mrs. Smith passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

  Born March 6, 1967, in Toccoa, she was the daughter of Bobby and Beatrice Chitwood York of Clarkesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Edward Smith.

  She was the director of special education at Woodville Elementary and worked in the Habersham County School System for 21 years. Mrs. Smith graduated from Habersham Central in 1985 and obtained her masters/specialist degree from Piedmont College. She had a love and passion for children like no other having hosted three exchange students, two from Germany and one from South Korea. Mrs. Smith was active in the community, having been involved with Foothills of North Georgia, EMMAUS, Woodmen of the World and anything to do with children. She was a member of Cool Springs Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son, Ethan McKlain Smith of Clarkesville; special cousin, Adelaide Loudermilk; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

  The family will have a drop-in visitation from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
