Funeral services for Eugene Maxwell, 79, of Mt. Airy, were held Saturday, April 24, at Hillside Memorial Chapel.  Interment followed the service in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Mr. Maxwell passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2021, at his residence.

Born Feb. 9, 1942, in White County, he was the son of the late Tatum and Wilma Ayers Maxwell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Moore Maxwell; daughter, Sally Maxwell; son-in-law, Alex Marvin Brown; brothers, T.L. Maxwell, and Edwin Maxwell; sister, Margaret Maxwell Seymore; nephews, Curtis Arrowood and Brian Seymore; and brothers-in-law, Richard Wade and Hurbert Durham.

Mr. Maxwell was a born again Christian and he was retired from Fieldale Farms with 50 years of loyal service. He was also in the logging business with his father and was also known to provide firewood for people in need to help them stay warm through the winter. 

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Maxwell Brown of Mt. Airy, and Dophine Brown of Banks County; son, Edgar Luiz Lopez of Cornelia; brother, Jerry Maxwell of Mt. Airy; sisters, Ann Arrowood of Clarkesville, Jewel Watts of Mt. Airy, Viola Wade of Demorest, Sybil Durham of Baldwin, and Frances Hill of Baldwin; as well as seven grandchildren; 25 great-grand-children; and a host of extended family.
