General Mardy Crumley

Funeral services for General Mardy Crumley, 88, of Demorest, were held Monday, Oct. 21, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev. Hal Cason officiating. Interment followed in VFW Memorial Park in Demorest.

Mr. Crumley passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019. 

Born Feb. 17, 1931, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Roy and Orlie Wells Crumley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Holcombe Crumley. 

Mr. Crumley retired from the United States Marines achieving the rank of master sergeant serving 22-and-a-half years. He also worked for over 10 years for the Demorest Post Office as a rural mail carrier. Mr. Crumley was a member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720, serving in many officer positions. He also served as state commander of the Department of Georgia VFW and the grand commander of the State of Georgia Military Order of the Cooties.  

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Clarence Arrowood of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Hollie Crumley of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. 

  Arrangements were in the care of Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel, Demorest.
