Funeral services for George Washington Freeman, 94, of Cornelia, will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

  Mr. Freeman went home to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 20, 2021.

Born Dec. 27, 1926, in Mount Airy, he was the son of the late George Benson Freeman and Laura Anderson Freeman. Mr. Freeman was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert Lee Freeman, Hobert Edward Freeman, Gordon Freeman, Howard Freeman, and Dock Freeman; sisters, Maude Nicholson and Bea Moody; special uncles, Dennis Anderson, Zeke Anderson; and aunts, Bernice Caudell and Ruth Southard. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Bobby Smith; and grandson, Colton Levi Hicks.

To many, he was affectionately called "Little George." His family and friends saw him as a humble, kind, loving, generous and supportive man. He was a devoted husband to his wife, a wonderful father to his daughters and an entertaining/mentoring papa to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Mr. Freeman retired from Ethicon after 27 years of employment in the engineering department. After retirement he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Marcella Addis Freeman; daughter, Frances Smith of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia Ann (David) Hussey of Flowery Branch, Linda (Danny) Almond of Cornelia, Sharon (Steve) Woods of Clarkesville and Lisa (Dennis) Hicks of Toccoa; grandchildren, Brent Smith, Adrienne (Josh) Dominicali, Seth (Cindy) Woods, Austin Swartz, Brooke Welborn (fiancé Chris Squires) and Hannah Hicks; great-grandchildren, Fonsi Woods, Scarlette Woods, Celia Woods, Kaleb Smith, Hunter Squires, and Hudson Squires.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel, Demorest.
