Funeral services for Georgie Eugenie Burrell, 92, of Mt. Airy, were held Monday, Aug. 31, at the Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Greg Burrell officiating. Interment followed in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Payne officiating at the graveside.

  Mrs. Burrell went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her family.

  Born Jan. 25, 1928, on the family farm in Mt. Airy, she was a daughter of the late Harold James and Martha Bertha Schmidt Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Holcomb and Catherine Cantrell.

Eugenie started her career with LeTourneau Manufacturing in Toccoa, then as a personal secretary with Lumite/Chicopee Manufacturing. She married Billy Burrell on Nov. 25, 1955. Alongside her husband, they served together in the ministry at various churches throughout this area for over 65 years. Eugenie also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, was involved with the Ladies Ministry, and was an active member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 65 years, the Rev. Billy Burrell; daughter, Neysa Joy Burrell; sisters, Helen Smith and Lenora Smith, all of Mt. Airy; brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Floy Smith of Toccoa; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
