Funeral services for Grace Marie Cody Cash, 89, of Baldwin, are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Brian James and Pastor Dave Channell officiating. Interment will follow at Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Cash went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019.
Born May 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Lewis C. Cody Sr. and Violet Ballew Cody of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Albert Maxwell "Max" Cash.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Dianne Cash of Mount Airy; her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Brett Black of Flowery Branch; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanettie and Curtis Crocker of Madison, Mississippi; and brother and sister-in-law, Lewie and Dianne Cody of Cornelia. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Courtney Cash, Kyle Cash, Laryssa Gragg, Brandon McLain, Rebekah Franklin, Isaac Black, Anna Kate Becker and Natalie Black; 11 great-grandchildren, Ebie Thieme, Kaley Ladd, Jake Ladd, Luke McLain, Emily McLain, Hudson McLain, Asher Franklin, Amelia Franklin, Jensen Goble, Adelyn Cash and J. Maxwell Black; and four great-great-grandchildren, Lakely Thieme, Aliyah Napier, Sierra Napier and Aria McGhee. Family was very important to Grace. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, and they all called her "Nandy."
She attended Baldwin High School, Piedmont College, Western Carolina University and the University of Georgia. She was an accomplished educator at all grade levels in the Habersham County School System for 30 years and loved her many students. During her later years of service, she was the school counselor at South Habersham Middle School. After retirement, she worked for Cornelia Florist and Habersham Hardware. She was a faithful, active member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk and Sunday school director, and Christ Place Church (formerly known as Blackshear Place Baptist Church), where she served in the Senior Adult and Shut In Ministries. She was an energetic, tireless worker who loved serving others and who touched many lives both in the classroom and in her church communities.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks Scenic View and Pruitt Hospice for their loving care for Grace during her extended illnesses.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. until the service hour Thursday at the funeral home.
