Funeral services for Hazel Wooten Poole, 95, of Clarkesville, were held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Connie Berry officiated. Interment followed in Hillside Gardens Cemetery.

  Mrs. Poole took her Heavenly flight home to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021.

  Born May 21, 1926, in Clarkesville, she was a daughter of the late Hiram Walter and Lydia Smith Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie B. Poole; son-in-law, Lamar Lovell; brothers, Raymond and Ted Wooten; and sisters, Ovaline Wooten, Christine Wooten, Ruby McClain, Berma Jean Bennett, and Ruth Davis.

Hazel retired from the Habersham County School System with 27 years of dedicated service. In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her two sisters, eating out at various places, and going to auction houses. Most of all, Hazel loved her family dearly including her in-laws. She was affectionately known as "Memaw" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel also enjoyed cooking for her family, singing in the church choir, and spending time with her best friend, Ovaline Rice. She was a dedicated member of Union Hill Baptist Church and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Sylvia Poole of Demorest; daughters and son-in-law, Jean Lovell of Clarkesville and Judy and Donald Allen of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Lakeeta and Joel Tyre of Clarkesville, Candace and Rob Blackburn of Alto,  Christopher and Jenny Allen of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jason and Julie Poole of Demorest; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Appleton and fiancé, Ashley Canup, Seth and Kendra Blackburn, Gabe Blackburn, Loralei Poole, James Allen, and Lucy Grace Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
