Memorial services for Howell "Scotty" Scott, 81, of Martin, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at Hillside Baptist Church, 324 Level Grove Road, Cornelia, with the Rev. Mike Ross and Funeral Director Michael Shirley officiating.

Mr. Scott passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022.

  Born June 28, 1940, in Stephens County, Mr. Scott was the son of the late Earl and Lola Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, William Kim Scott; godson, Robin Lewallen; sister, Earlene Veal; brothers, Hoyt Bennett, Edwin Bennett, and Gwen Scott; and mother and father-in-law, Bud and Selma Williams.

  He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. Mr. Scott was never known by Howell; everyone called him "Scotty."

He served in the funeral service for over the past 50 years, starting at Matthews Mortuary and including Church and Son Funeral Home, McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Wages and Son Funeral Home, Memorial Park Funeral Homes and serving the last seven years at Whitfield Funeral Homes and Crematory. When he first started in funeral service, "Scotty" was also in the second class in Habersham County to become a licensed EMT. "Scotty" had served six years in the Army National Guard, Toccoa Unit. Most importantly, he was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, and he got to see them win their last and most recent championship. "Scotty" was an all-around great man. He was friends to all who knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. To know "Scotty" was to love "Scotty."

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Williams Scott of Martin; son, Howell Tim Scott of Martin; godson, Rodney Lewallen of Mt. Airy; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Scott Jones of Lula; grandchildren, Alex Scott, Rory Scott, Kaylee Scott, and Miley Scott; brothers, Wayne Scott of Toccoa and James Scott of Toccoa; special friends, Grady and Phyllis Lewallen; special nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; and a host of wonderful friends, relatives, and co-workers.

The family will receive friends during a reception following the service at Hillside Baptist Church.
