Funeral services for Hugh Keith Watson, 86, of Clarkesville, will be held Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. from Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Doug Simonds. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church of Epworth cemetery. Pallbearers will be Connor Els, Andre Els, Ben Bailey, Joey Ray, Johnny Farmer, Jordan Farmer, and Jonathan Farmer.

Mr. Watson passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2022 at his home.

He was born May 7, 1936, in Centre, Alabama, to the late Vinson C. Watson and Mildred Cochran Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia Carol Watson; daughter, Angela Els; and sisters, Vivian Edwards, Frances Richardson, and Betty Martin.

He graduated with degrees from Jacksonville State, Tulane, University of Georgia, and Georgia State University. Hugh retired from Cobb County Board of Education where he worked many years as a teacher. He was fluent in Spanish and enjoyed traveling, especially to Costa Rica and Cuba. While he was able, he enjoyed restoring old cars and tending to his fruit orchard. He was a member of Nelms Lodge #323 F&AM in Smyrna and was also a Shriner and member of the Optimist International Club.

Hugh is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Keith and Beth Daves Watson; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and David Rockey; his son-in-law, Andre Els; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will visit with friends at the funeral home  Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the service hour.
