A drive-in funeral service for J.C. Scroggs, 93, of Alto, will be held on the porch of the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 7, with the Rev. Raymond Forkner, the Rev. Raymond Payne, and the Rev. Dennis Ledford officiating. A family interment will be held at Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Scroggs met Jesus Friday, June 5, 2020 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 21, 1926, in Banks County, he was the son of the late John W. and Cora Chitwood Scroggs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Lou Scroggs. 

Mr. Scroggs retired from WABCO Air Brake Company with 26 years of service. After retirement, J.C. was a bus driver with the Habersham County School System for 15 years. He was a member of Alto Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving in many capacities; including Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, and Youth Leader. J.C. enjoyed taking trips camping and fishing. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. J.C. was known to his grandchildren as "Papa."

Survivors include his loving wife of 75 years, Mary Nix Scroggs of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Glenn Thompson of WInder; sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Terry Roberts of Athens; grandson, Tommy Brian Thompson of Winder; granddaughter and her spouse, Christy and Michael Nerroth Jr. of Winder; great-grandsons, Michael C. Nerroth III, and Joshua Bryan Nerroth, both of Winder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  The family will receive friends from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Sunday, June 7, through a "Drive-By" visitation. Please follow directions from the funeral home staff when arriving.

  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Alto Baptist Church, 210 BC Grant Road, Alto, GA 30510.
