Funeral services for JoAnn Free Chapman, 80, of Clarkesville, were held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. Pastor Mike Franklin officiated. Interment followed in the New Liberty Church cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born April 22, 1942, in Tiger, she was a daughter of the late Elbert Grady and Mary Geneva Free. In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her brother, Hoyt Free.

JoAnn was a graduate of North Habersham High School, class of 1960.

JoAnn worked for many years in the textile and manufacturing industry. She also served as a caretaker for her family for numerous years. JoAnn's most treasured role was being a devoted wife, loving mother, and adored "Nanny" to her grandchildren whom she loved endlessly. She attended The Torch Worship Center.

Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, James T. Chapman; son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Lorna Chapman; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and William Rogers, Gail and Tony Welborn, and Deborah and James Whitlow; grandchildren, Shelby, Gunner, and Noah Whitlow and Nate Welborn; and sister, Betty Jean Free Tyler, all of Clarkesville; and numerous other relatives and friends.
