A memorial service for JoAnn Knight Thomas, 79, of Clarkesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with the Rev. Kenneth McEntire, Ms. Sarah Hooper, and Ms. Barbara Blackwell officiating.

  Mrs. Thomas went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 at her residence following an extended illness.

  Born Nov. 20, 1941, in Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Joe Boyd and Gladys Atwood Knight. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Merritt, Judy Knight, and Patricia Knight.

JoAnn was a caregiver her entire life. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, watching westerns and cooking shows, sending cards with her beautiful handwriting, bible studies with her friend, Barbara, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Most of all, JoAnn looked forward to precious time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her children, Lisa and Buck Hooper of Demorest, and Allen and Christy Thomas of Cleveland;  grandchildren, Levi and Jamie Thomas of Cleveland,  Ashley Hooper and Mitchell Davis of Clarkesville, Sarah Hooper and Justin Rumsey, Will and Suzanne Brown, and Kelsey and Jordan Allison, all of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Kylie McAllister, Anabelle Thomas, Oaklen Brown, Kylie Mae Thomas, Kinsley McAllister, Cass Thomas, Anslen Brown, Larkyn Allison, Haislee Thomas, Hensley Allison, Dennam Allison, and Boone Rumsey; sister, Ruth Holliday of Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Those attending the memorial service at the funeral home are requested to observe all guidelines for social distancing provided by the Centers for Disease Control in regard to the Covid-19 virus.
