Funeral services for Johnny Clifford Rush, 88, of Clarkesville, were held Saturday, Jan. 29, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Powell and Dr. Charles Holland officiated. Interment followed the service at Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rush passed away Jan. 26, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Born Nov. 27, 1933, in Demorest, he was the son of the late Clifford Rush and Mary Canupp Rush. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Francis Rush Raulerson (Jack) of Okeechobee, Florida and Alice Rush Jones (Waymon) of Demorest.

Johnny was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Scovill Manufacturing after 40 years of dedicated service. He then spent 11 years serving his community at Hillside Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  He was a member and deacon of Macedonia Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, collecting antiques, restoring vintage clocks, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel Waters Rush; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Tommy Adams of Clarkesville and daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Jerry Gerrin of Clarkesville. Mr. Rush had three grandchildren, Amanda Adams Bryant (John) of Demorest, Christopher Adams, of Corvallis, Oregon, and Wesley Gerrin of Athens.  He had three great-grandchildren, Parker Bryant, Emma Kate Bryant, and Jackson Bryant. Also included in the family are numerous nieces and nephews.
