Funeral services for Linda Eary Whitfield Newsome, 88, of Baldwin, were held Sunday, Oct. 9, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Dr. Brian James and Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Interment followed in Broad River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Newsome went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of Oct. 6, 2022.

Born June 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Joe and May Whitfield.

She quickly became a motherly figure to all that surrounded her. Though she only had three grandchildren, she was like a grandmother to many more "youngins" that she had the privilege to keep. Before going to meet the Lord, she was introduced to her second great-grandchild.

Though she had a long battle with dementia, she never lost what her true nature was. She was loving, she was caring, and she was sweet till the Lord said it was time for her to come home. Now she knows us, and we will never have to worry about someone watching over us again because we all know she is looking down and saying "y'all get some more bread."

Surviving in her loving memory include her husband, Lilburn Newsome; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Shawn Buckley; daughter, Samantha Smith; grandchildren, Ryan Smith and his wife, Heather Smith, Kristin Smith, and Christopher Buckley; great-grandchildren, Houston Kytle and Taten Smith; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Level Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 416, Cornelia, Georgia 3053, or to the Charity of One's Choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel at 1370 Industrial Boulevard, Baldwin.
