Funeral Services for Marsha Hicks James, 75, of Springfield, formerly of Clarkesville, were held Monday, Dec. 28, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev. Trent Smith officiating. Interment followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. James passed away Wednesday Dec. 23, 2020.

Born Sept. 21, 1945, in Atlanta, she was a daughter the late Cecil Ray Hicks and Dora Belle Pitts Hicks. 

She was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU. She also volunteered for the Hub of Habersham and was a charter member and served as the Chairman of the Republicans Women Chapter of Habersham County. Mrs. James graduated from Piedmont College, where she received her bachelor's and master's degree in Education. She was a retired Social Studies Teacher, having taught as Riverside Military Academy. Marsha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, G.L. "Sonny" James Jr., of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Alan Blackwelder of Springfield, and Amie and James Dickerson of Meldrim; daughter, Kari James of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Leeanne Raffield of Thompson; brother, John Hatfield of Richmond Hill; and grandchildren, Abbie Dickerson and Joshua Dickerson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. James' memory to The Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
