Funeral services for Mary Goss Umbehant, 82, of Mt. Airy, were held Sunday, July 31, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Bill Trotter officiated. Interment followed the service at the Stonepile Baptist Church cemetery.
Ms. Umbehant passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022.
Born Sept. 12, 1939 and a lifelong native of Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Georgia Nations Goss. In addition to her parents, Ms. Umbehant was preceded in death by daughter, Wanda Belford; sisters, Ruby Farmer, Frances Free, Betty Burton, Linda Goss, and Mae Jones; and brothers, Frank Goss Jr., Randolph Goss, and Eugene Goss.
Ms. Umbehant spent her entire career in the medical field; she was a respiratory therapist at Toccoa Nursing Center, and for the last 30 plus years, she was a CNA at The Oaks at Scenic View. Mary had a true servant's heart and spent her entire life taking care of others. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Mrs. Umbehant was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Trotter (Deborah) of Demorest and Winford Trotter (Ming) of Demorest; daughter, Brenda Merck (Mitchell) of Mt. Airy; sister, Geneva Reece of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Chris Merck (Dina), Robin Trotter, Adam Phillips (Nicole), Jacob Phillips (Lindsey), Deven Trotter, and Kurian Trotter; four great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.
