Funeral services for Melinda Burrell Lassiter, 82, of Cornelia, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Lassiter passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Born Feb. 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Effie and Glenn Burrell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, G. B. Burrell, Hoyt Burrell and Dewey Burrell; and her sisters, Carria Esterline, Kathleen Campbell, Irene Rousey, and Moleen Gaston.

Mrs. Lassiter was a graduate of South Habersham High School, Cornelia, Class of 1957. Her first job was working half day at Habersham County Medical Center, Demorest, while still in high school, under the DECA program. She also received an associate degree at Piedmont College in Demorest.

After moving to Atlanta, she worked as a stenographer at the Psychiatric Dept. at Emory University Hospital. Then she worked as the secretary for L.C. Buchan, M.D., General Surgeon for 13 years. Her next job was with Nolan M. Lassiter M.D.P.C. as his office manager for 41 years.

While Melinda was working in Atlanta, she met Noan M. Lassiter, M.D.P.C. and they were married Aug. 29, 1987 in a garden wedding and reception held at Williamsburg Apts. in Decatur. Melinda and Nolan loved traveling over the United States and many foreign countries including Kenya, E. Africa where they participated in 16 mission trips through the years.

After Melinda's parents passed away, she and Nolan purchased her parents' homeplace on Foster Street in Cornelia, remodeled it and used it as their retirement home. They retired in July 2016.

Melinda was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church in Cornelia. She was a very kind, gentle, and caring person, who always had a beautiful smile on her face for everyone.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Nolan M. Lassiter, M.D.P.C.; her stepdaughter, Suzanne Lassiter ONeil (Kevin); her stepsons, Nolan M. Lassiter Jr. M.D., (Annie), David H. Lassiter, Doctor of Psychology, (Sharan) and John M. Lassiter. Also, she is survived by her brother, Roscoe Burrell; her sister, Eloise Burrell Smith; sister-in-law, Isabelle Burrell; step grandchildren, Winston ONeil, Preston ONeil, Nolan E. Lassister, M.D., Sam Lassiter, Max Lasiter, Sarah Lassiter, and D. Michael Lassiter. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved her very much.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, and from 1 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the funeral home prior to the service.
