Funeral services for Merle Wood Frye, 87, of Clarkesville, were held Tuesday, July 5, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. Dr. Josh Taylor officiated. Interment followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Frye went to her heavenly home Saturday, July 2, 2022, just eight days shy of her 88th birthday.

Mrs. Frye was born July 10, 1934, in Habersham County, to the late Mont and Lillie Mae Morgan Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Phillip Oliver Frye; sisters, Minnie Hames and Lucille Anderson; brothers, Ed Wood, Swain Wood, Bill Wood, and Floyd Wood.; and step-grandson, Keith Dodgins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Frye was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest where she was active in many community service aspects including food preparation as well as quilting and working with the ladies groups. Merle was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; she was known to her grandchildren as "Grandma." She had a love for gardening, both flowers and vegetables.

Survivors include her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn Frye Taylor and Denzer of Clarkesville; Dianne Frye Dodgins and Gervace of Clarkesville; granddaughter and spouse, Kristi Dodgins Rayner and Johnathon of Clarkesville; step-grandchild and spouse, Debra Dodgins Hall and Mike of Gainesville: great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Rayner and Jaxon Rayner; step-great-grandchildren, Haley Dodgins, Emily Dodgins, Nicole Hall, Kathryn Hall, and Mikayla Hall; sisters-in-law, Genelle Wood, Willene Wood, Elise Frye, and Beverly Frye Shirley; brother-in-law and spouse, Jack Frye and Mary Cloid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extended their graditude to Mrs. Frye's caregivers, Carol Smith, Gail Ivester, and Brenda Daniels.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Frye's memory to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 988 US-441 Business Hwy, Demorest, GA 30535.
