Memorial services for Minnie Hannah Carolyn Ivie Looney, 93, of Cornelia will be held at a later date.

      Mrs. Looney passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021.

    Born June 1, 1927, in Habersham County, Minnie was the daughter of the late William Dallas Ivie and Dora Icie Warwick Ivie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Jarrell Looney; second husband, Robert Burton; son, William Jonathan Looney; daughter, Susan Elizabeth Herron; brother, Henry Lee Ivie; and sister, Luna Mae Long. 

She was a nurse’s aide with Habersham Hospital and Habersham Home for many years. Minnie also served as a civilian clerk typist for the United States Army in Atlanta, during World War II. She was a devout church goer and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. Looney and Teresa McVeigh of Augusta; daughter-in-law, Betsy Looney of Gainesville; grandchildren and spouses, Paul Herron of Manhattan, Kansas, Laura Beth Herron of Athens, Tennessee, Jake and Laura Herron of Apison, Tennessee, Ginni Herron of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Katie and Jourdan Smith of Gainesville; and five great-grandchildren, Gracelyn, Landon, Braden, Madelyn Herron, and Ava Smith. 

The family expresses their gratitude to Gay Milholen for being Minnie's caregiver and friend during the last months of her life. They would also like to offer special thanks to the staff at Habersham Retreat, who took care of Minnie for the last year.

Those in attendance at the memorial service are asked to please adhere to the public health and social distancing guidelines regarding COVID-19.
