Mrs. McAlister passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Born May 6, 1939, in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Marie Pitchford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas VanHook McAlister; and sister, Gloria Windham. Her husband, Thomas, passed in 1994 and she continued her love for him until she passed.

She was a member of Duluth First United Methodist Church and retired from First International Associates, where she was a receptionist.  A true example of a grandmother, she kept in close touch with her grandchildren. Mrs. McAlister loved cooking and spending time with her family.

Mrs. McAlister is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Jeannie McAlister of Bethlehem; daughters and sons-in-law, Tara and Chad Hutchinson of Demorest and Robin and Gene Dawkins of Mt. Airy; six grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Lindsey Hailey, Michael and Matthew McAlister, and Megan and Abigail Hutchinson; five great-grandchildren, Caleb, Aaron, Zoe, River and Steele; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Walid Nannis; and several nieces and nephews.
