Funeral services for Orville Thomas Smith, 69, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Bishop Rayburne Wison, Dr. Craig Ward and the Rev. Chip Cranford officiating. Interment will follow the service in church cemetery.

 Mr. Smith passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Nov. 30, 1949, in Clayton, he was a son of the late Orville Wayne and Verna Mae Kilby Smith. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jimmy Shiflet and Edsel Shiflet.

 Thomas was a machinist for many years at Piedmont Automotive, owner/operator of The Finish Coat and worked part time for Quality Foods. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville, where he served as head usher and was a part of the Band of Brothers Men's Ministry.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Kathryn Shiflet Smith of Clarkesville; sons, Erik Smith and Shane Smith, both of Clarkesville; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Ricky Taylor of Mt. Airy; uncle and spouse, Carlos and Sherry Kilby; sister-in-law, Melinda Shiflet of Toccoa; niece, Christen Shiflet; nephews, Charlie Shiflet, Corey Shiflet, Payton Taylor and Patrick Taylor; cousin, Pam Williams Cooper and husband, John Cooper and their daughter, Cecila.
