Funeral services for the Rev. Anthony Eugene Hooker, 57, of Maysville, were held Tuesday, May 11, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hooker and the Rev. Randy Roys officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Gardens Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.

    Rev. Hooker took his heavenly flight home Friday, May 7, 2021.

  Born June 21, 1963, in Dalton, he was the son of the Rev. Gene and Bessie Knight Hooker of Cleveland, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his brother, Chris Hooker; and father-in-law, the Rev. William Hoyt "Buz" Simmons.

  Anthony served his country proudly as a United States Marine, surrendered his call into the ministry in August of 1978, and was a part of Rock of Ages Prison Ministries for over 10 years. He was employed as a supply operator with Mars-Wrigley with many years of dedicated service. In his spare time, Anthony enjoyed woodworking, writing poetry, and was a big American History enthusiast. Most of all, he loved his wife and children tremendously. Anthony was a member of Glory Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Angie Simmons Hooker of Maysville; sons and daughter-in-law, Andrew Hooker, Kyle and Sarah Hooker, and Daniel Hooker; daughter, Elizabeth Hooker, all of Maysville; granddaughter, Sadie Hooker of Maysville; mother-in-law, Joan Simmons of Clarkesville; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Juanita Hooker Welborn, and Amy and John Moon, all of Clarkesville; niece, Megan Moon of Clarkesville; nephews, Shane and Jennifer Hooker of Tennessee, and John Avery Moon of Clarkesville; great-nephew, Ayden Eash; and great-niece, Ava Hooker, both of Tennessee.
