The funeral service for the Rev. John Henry "Johnny" Barrett, 86, of Cornelia, were held Sunday, May 9, at New Vision Worship Center in Baldwin with the Rev. Devin O’Kelly, the Rev. Courtney Umbehant, and the Rev. Mickey Umbehant officiating. Burial followed in Level Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Mitchell officiating. 

Rev. Barrett passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021, at his home following an extended illness.

Born May 3, 1935, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Grady and Mattie Parr Barrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Drucilla Ivester Barrett; granddaughter, Kristy Umbehant; brothers, James Barrett, Donnie Barrett (Jeanette), and Jimmy Barrett; and sisters, Mildred Filyaw (George) and Joyce Thompson (Doug); brother-in-law, Jerry Williamson; and sister-in-law, Sandra Barrett.

  He was an ordained minister with the Congregational Holiness Church. During a ministry that spanned more than 60 years, he served as pastor to congregations in Hiawassee, Greensboro, Hogansville, Canon, Union Point, and Baldwin. He worked in the textile industry as the cutting room supervisor for Orbit Manufacturing, Tibro Manufacturing, and Tugaloo River Boxer Company for several years. While pastoring Union Point Worship Center, he also worked as maintenance supervisor for the Greene County Housing Authority. The Rev. Barrett was a member of New Vision Worship Center. 

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Mickey Umbehant, Tammy and Mike Murray, and Melissa and David Klopschinski; sister, Betty Williamson; brothers, Bobby Barrett (Brenda), Billy Joe Barrett, Jerry Barrett (Joyce), Terry Barrett (Judy), and Steve Barrett (Pam); sisters-in-law, Barbara Barrett and Beth Barrett; grandchildren, Courtney Umbehant (Natalie), Summer O'Kelly (Devin), Autumn Brown (Timmy), Mason Murray (Rebekah), Jeremy Dooley (Lacie), Taylor McGahee (Kaleb), and Nicholas Klopschinski (Alexis); great-grandchildren, Noah and Olivia Umbehant, Colby, Liana, and Trenton O'Kelly, Landon, Jackson, Walker, and Emmalyn Brown, Lily, Ella Rose, and Charlie Dooley, and Hunter, John Thomas, Kolt, and Gabriel McGahee; and many nieces and nephews.
