Susie Mae Chitwood Ausburn

Funeral services for Susie Mae Chitwood Ausburn, 96, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Brian James and the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

  Mrs. Ausburn went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020.

  Born April 29, 1924, in Banks County, she was a daughter of the late William Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Smith Chitwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Grace Mace, Irene Cantrell, Edith Jenkins, Annie Loudermilk, and Billy Chitwood.

Susie was a seamstress and retired from Carwood Manufacturing with many years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Level Grove Baptist Church for over 70 years where she enjoyed serving in teaching positions from nursery age, teenage group, and in the Adult Ladies Sunday School classes. Susie also loved singing in the church choir and participating in the Sunshine Band Senior Group activities. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and was a magnet for any child with whom she came in contact. Most of all, Susie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Survivors include her children, Carol and Rudy Cantu of Kingwood, Texas, Gay and Sonny Williams of Blairsville, Wanda Dill of Flowery Branch, and Barbara and Bruce DeMore of Clarkesville; sister, Lucile Smith of Cornelia; grandchildren, Stephanie and Chris Turner of Boise, Idaho, Leilani and Jason Bales of Garland, Texas, Anthony and Isamar Cantu of Kingwood, Texas, Camille and Kevin Ready of Marietta, Angela Paige Mefferd of Oakwood,  Matt and Lisa Mefferd of Gainesville, Brandon and Hannah DeMore of Clarkesville, and Brett and Heather DeMore of Mt. Airy; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Fay Olson of Gainesville; honorary daughter, Debra Chitwood of Clarkesville; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and church family.

The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday, Dec.30, from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
