Funeral services for Sylvia Mae Trusty, 92, of Clarkesville, were held Tuesday, Aug.17, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Bill Trotter officiating. Interment followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Trusty passed away Friday, Aug. 13, after an extended illness, surrounded by her family.
Born March 5, 1929, in Clarkesville, she was the daughter of the late Henry Starr Sosebee and Annie Katie Simmons Sosebee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Huey, Carlton, and Boyd Sosebee; sister, Martha Allen; son, Gary Trusty; son-in-law, Jimmie "Bo Bo" Watts; and grandchildren, Whitney Trusty, Coty Trusty, and Nicholas Vega.
Sylvia was affectionately known by many as Mama, Granny, or Nanny. There wasn't a person that entered her house that wasn't offered a good homecooked meal served with a glass of sweet tea and a hug that would make the world right again. She believed in always spreading her love through the food she cooked and never turned anyone away. If you walked into her house and sat down at the dinner table, you were family. With her quick wit, bright smile, and big heart she always made sure to put her family first, but she would tell you exactly what she was thinking in her sassy southern accent and you were going to hear her out no matter what. She loved making memories with the grandkids, whether it be serving them a picnic lunch in a bedsheet fort she built from her freshly laundered linens, allowing them to tear her house apart while playing, drying sopping wet clothes when they decided to run in the rain, or building puzzles while watching T.V. while she took a break. Sylvia retired from Fieldale Farms to stay home and help with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitch, puzzles, cooking, but her true passion was taking care of her family.
Mrs. Trusty is survived by her children, Bill and Pat Trusty of Lula, Gloria Watts of Clarkesville, Ann and Jason Goguen of Clarkesville, and Tammy Vega of the home; grandchildren, Anthony and Melinda Trusty, Jason and Jody Trusty, Denise Hogan, Kristy and Tony Hall, Travis Watts, Dawn and Bradley Taylor, Amber and Eric Smith, Jacob and Madison Goguen, and Daniel and Jessica Vega; along with 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews, and friends who she considered family.
Arrangements were entrusted to Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, and Crematory, Demorest.
