  Funeral services for Thurmond L. Gibson, 82, of Demorest, were held Thursday, Dec. 2, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Bill Trotter officiated. Interment followed in the Turnerville Church of God cemetery in Clarkesville.

  Mr. Gibson went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, following an extended illness.

  Born July 11, 1939, in Demorest, he was a son of the late Harrison Newt and Ethel Ivester Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Patsy Ann Holden Gibson; brothers, Garnett Gibson and Doyle Gibson; and sisters, Cora Lee Whitfield, Annabelle Waddell, Evelyn Howard, Wilma Gomez, and Carolyn Tyler.

  Thurmond worked with Fieldale Farms Corp. for many years. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Thurmond was a hardworking man and a great provider for his family. He was a member of Old Nacoochee Missionary Baptist Church.

  Survivors include his children, Brenda Gibson of Demorest, Donna and Jeff Bohannon of Baldwin, Lonnie Gibson of Demorest, Richard and Ann Gibson of Demorest, and Lisa and Mark Williams of Clarkesville; brother, Clinton Gibson of Toccoa; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
