Funeral services for Virginia Lee Tench Thompson, 80, of Cornelia, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, with Mr. Kasey McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. 

  Mrs. Thompson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021.

  Born Jan. 25, 1941, in Gainesville, she was the daughter of the late J.C.  and Fannie Elrod Tench. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Billy Joe Thompson Sr.

  Virginia worked with Habersham Home for numerous years and was also a private caregiver for many families in the area. She enjoyed taking care of her family and those around her. In her spare time, Virginia enjoyed camping and spending precious time with her children as well as her grandchildren. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Thompson Free and Michael Free of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe "Joey" Thompson Jr. and Amy Thompson of Cornelia; grandchildren, Amber and Trey Gibby of Cornelia, Joshua Free and Joanne Renshaw of Maysville, and Kindal Thompson and Josie Thompson, both of Cornelia; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Saylor Gibby of Cornelia, and Conner Free of Maysville; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Jerry Chapman of Clarkesville; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Cheryl Tench of Dahlonega; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In consideration of public health and safety, it is requested that all those in attendance for both visitation and the funeral service observe all guidelines for social distancing.
