Memorial services for William H. "Bill" Elrod Jr., 73, of Mount Airy, will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Elrod passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at his home.

Born May 4, 1947, at the "The Charm House" Walker's Clinic in Habersham County, he was the son of Frances Lucile Baron and the late William Henry Elrod. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Carol Ward Elrod.

Mr. Elrod was employed with Mount Vernon Mills having retired in 2016 with 50 years of loyal and dedicated service.  

Mr. Elrod, or "Bill," as he was known by and called by friends and family, spent much of his life during the 1970's and 1980's coaching all three sports, of the time, baseball, basketball, and football. Bill was an exceptionally competative youth coach and to this very day, Mr. Elrod maintains one of the most impressive win/loss records in the history of Habersham County athletics. Many of the greatest Habersham High School and collegiate level athletes played on one or more of his teams throughout his 15-year coaching career.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Sherrice Elrod of Rutherfordton, North Carolina;  son, William Clinton "Clint" Elrod of Clarkesvile; grandchildren, Cassadra Elrod, Reece Elrod, Jacob Elrod, Chance Manly, and Malea Whitehurst; great-grandchild, Alice Janet Marsengill; also a good friend, Kin Trotter.
