April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. And for a dozen years, we have placed pinwheels on our front pages in April to add focus to efforts to protect our most vulnerable residents.
Abuse takes many forms, including physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and neglect.
According to its mission statement, Prevent Child Abuse America recognizes that all community members have a role in ensuring children have positive experiences and families have the resources they need when they need them, well before they are in crisis. The theme of this year’s awareness and impact campaign that we lead in partnership with our national network of state chapters, is “Building Together: Prevention in Partnership.”
Child abuse and neglect are preventable, and all communities benefit when children and families are well supported. Locally, the Family Resource Center encourages individuals and organizations to play a role in making Habersham County a better place for children and families.
Family Resource Center supports changing individual life stories for the better.
We support Family Resource Center’s belief that the best way to save our children from the life-altering effects of abuse is through prevention. Focusing on ways to build and promote protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do to prevent child abuse and to promote positive child development.
The Family Resource Center hosts parenting classes, fundraisers and interactions that are crucial to getting the message out about protecting our community’s most valuable resource – its children.
To make a donation that can help this cause, go to the website at frcofneg.org. We encourage anyone who has the means to donate to charitable causes to consider supporting one our of absolute most vital organizations.
“We all have a role to play in making sure that families in our community are thriving and that all children are loved and nurtured. Through our work, we have identified great needs in the areas we serve. We need your support to continue our mission to empower and nurture local families,” Family Resource Center’s website reads.
Family Resource Center will host a Pups for Prevention fundraiser event at the Community House in Cornelia on Saturday, April 22. Registration is available at www.raceentry.com/pups-for-prevention/race-information.
Thank you, Family Resource Center for all you do. Habersham County, let’s do all we can to protect the most vulnerable among us.
