THUMBS UP to Habersham County’s businesses and industries, which are honored in today’s edition with the “Best of Habersham County” section.
These businesses and industries serve us every day and are the foundation and pillars of our local economy.
Our readers have spoken, and they have chosen their favorite businesses, industries and individuals in a number of categories. Those folks are honored to have been chosen, but in addition to those winners, we all owe a debt of thanks to all our business owners, community leaders who keep Habersham County strong.
Without them, Habersham County would not exist as we know and love today. Our business community stayed strong through the pandemic and showed adaptability to an untenable situation. They continued serving us food, changing our oil and making sure our world spun on.
We encourage our readers to patronize these businesses and continue this endless cycle of mutual gain as we move forward into a bright economic future.
THUMBS DOWN to U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who this week called for a “national divorce,” which included demarcation of red and blue states. Rep.Greene also remarked that folks moving from blue states to red states should have to wait five years to vote.
This is not someone standing behind the Constitution or defending American values. This is someone trying to further divide us. There is a lot of craziness in our country that must be dealt with, but her scorched earth approach will never work.
We don’t need a national divorce. We need to renew our vows to uphold the beliefs that have carried this country forward for almost 250 years.
THUMBS UP to Habersham Central’s Lady Raiders, who are off to the Sweet 16 for the second time in three years Friday night.
These girls have worked hard under coach Bill Bradley to get this far, and they will be playing for their 20th win against powerhouse Langston Hughes. Lady Raiders, we are proud of you and pulling for you.
Keep an eye on our spring sports teams as they go deeper into what look like promising seasons. We also celebrate the Band of Blue, now under the direction of Jacob Weinstein after the retirement of Ryan Dukes.
Raider Pride is flowing these days, and we are glad to be a part of celebrating the accomplishments of all our young people.
