Congress designated Oct. 28 as National First Responders Day in 2017. The resolution honors the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and all those who are first on the scene in stressful situations.
Our community would not be what it is without our first responders, and while taxes have gone up recently across the board, Habersham County and its municipalities have invested a lot of their resources in public safety.
Even with increased pay and new positions opened up in our emergency and law enforcement departments over the last few years, we still don’t have all we need. Those who do serve – including often working extra shifts, risking their lives and being away from their families even more – deserve our respect and support.
Take time to thank a first responder today and every day, knowing the sacrifices they are making to keep us all safe.
