Broadway comes to Habersham

To the editor:

Who would have thought a High School in Habersham County could produce such a glorious rendition of a Broadway Musical?

“Crazy For You” was performed last week at Habersham County High School.  Music and Lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, with non-stop song, dance and tap throughout the evening.  It was a true delight, revealing lots of unexpected and astonishing talent.

This show had to be a huge undertaking, but the cast and crew more than rose to the challenge.  The ensemble was supported by strong leading roles. Adrian Ramsey as Polly. Nolan Perrick as Bobby Child and Bobby Wallace as Bela Zangler. Adrian Ramsey shone with her songs and dance.  Nolan Perrick tapped, danced and sang, delivering a real spirit of Broadway.

His tap dancing was exceptional. Debonair, charming and graceful. Like a young Fred Astaire in our midst! He never seemed  to tire of delivering and we never tired of watching him tap the night away.

It was easy to indulge oneself in the nostalgia of a time gone by, with songs and music originally written in the 1930’s. How great to see young people exposed to Gershwin and his music and to tap dancing. Enter the Follies! How they dazzled and glittered with their costumes and energy.  Their timing, continuity and synchronization was exceptional. Thanks to the choreography team of Emerald Patterson and Kerri Pugh. Their hard work and that of the showgirls brought it all together. You were all fabulous and could not have danced better.

Infused by their energy and enthusiasm, one could not help but join in and tap to the beat of “I Got Rhythm” and other wonderful hits.

“Crazy For You” is a rounded blend of music, comedy, dance, tap and sentiment.  Director Jeremy Bishop and all his crew deserve much praise for this superb, polished production.  Expectations were far exceeded. If this cast and crew are the future of the theater, then the future is looking bright. “Who Could Ask For Anything More?”
