Celebration of history was excellent

To the editor: As an advisor to the Habersham County Historical Society, it was my pleasure to participate at the 50th Year Golden Jubilee celebration of this organization. It was my honor to recognize and thank six amazing women at the event, including Historical Society Executive Director Audrey Davenport, Board Members Debbie Satterfield and Jackie Hodges and curator Olga VyrjIkovskaia. These women have bravely kept the Historical Society and Museum going and pulled off an amazing celebration event.

Also recognized was Habersham’s acclaimed Katie Deal who entertained the audience along with the Country River Music Band and Kurt Johnson. Dr. Audrey
Milo-Turner was further recognized and she later spoke to the audience where she detailed the 200 year multi-cultural history of Habersham County with encouragement for strong unification and historic preservation.

The men were recognized as well with gracious historian/comedians Bobby Watson, Emory Jones and David Price providing a fun filled “Time Machine” theatrical play highlighting key Habersham events from days gone by. Habersham Commission Chairman Ty Akins presented a much deserved proclamation to the Historical Society 50th Anniversary and his gratitude on behalf of our county residents is much appreciated.

The day-long presentations and the dinner celebration were designed to celebrate the past 50 years. But more importantly, to also bring awareness to Habersham County citizens of the importance of supporting, volunteering and donating to our Habersham Historical Society so it can endure another 50 years. Please thank these people and support their efforts online at  www.habershamhistoricalsociety50.com.
