To the editor: Brian Wellmeier’s article about county properties being undervalued brings to light some very serious questions that no one seems to be asking, which is normal. The county needs more money. Because of the current Demoncrat administration policies, inflation has caused a serious shortfall for all of us. But unlike the county, we can’t demand more money.
If we have to live with it, the county has to also. If I have to choose more wisely how I spend my money, should the county have to also? Somehow, the ever increasing need for more money has to stop or inflation will not stop and we will be like Germany after WWII where it took a wheelbarrow of “Marks” to buy a loaf of bread. We all will starve. I think this is called a “Catch 22.” Please stop the train – I want to get off!
Can anyone but the incredibly wealthy afford to buy any properties in the county? I can’t afford anything, but I don’t count – obviously. Does paying more for a property than it is worth, mean it is worth more?
No, it only means that the person who paid more is stupid. That stupidity causes more inflation and I might add, unnecessary inflation for the rest of us not so rich people. Real estate people have a motive for increasing property values – they make more money! They should not be trusted with making value judgments.
The cost of building materials has come somewhat back down and is expected to return close to normal values. That argument needs to be brought down a notch also.
I commend the Tax Assessor’s Office on trying to do a good job and keep things as open and honest as they possibly can, but especially that they assess at reasonable values and costs which, as I am told, is designed to prevent unnecessary inflation. I think everyone else on the other side of this issue are money grubbing crooks causing more inflation for the rest of us.
That is what it looks like to me. Just saying.
