To the editor: Recently, Gov. Brian Kemp announced that our state budget ran a surplus this year returning $500 to each taxpayer.

I extend my invitation in the form of a challenge. I will be forwarding my “extra” $500 to a charity and I challenge any able community members to donate your $500. We have many entities to choose from, so take your pick.

The need in our community today greatly surpasses the ability of all local and government services, charities, churches, and civic groups to provide enough. Show compassion and lift up your neighbors in need. Your heart will be rewarded.
