To the editor:
Dear Legislators, Educators, Parents, Friends and Neighbors,
Education is a wonderful thing, and so is curiosity. People of the First Nations have a different perspective of American History than people whose ancestors came from Africa enslaved, or from England, Ireland. And the story is different for those from Europe whose ancestors were indentured, or had wealth. It’s fascinating and important to understand who we are, and how we are becoming better Americans. Teachers are very invested in helping form good citizenship
HB 888, HB 1084, SB 375, and SB 377 before the Georgia legislature attempt to censor the teaching of history. It reminds me of the parable of the blind men and the elephant. Claiming absolute truth from a limited perspective of our complex history is not education. I think these bills are divisive and should not be passed.
